This drink was created during the trend of naming drinks after terms generally associated with sex. This drink is also known as a Screaming Orgasm and appears in print as early as:
American Professional Bartender’s School Drinks Guide page 10 by American Professional Bartenders School in 1982
“Orgasm – Stemmed glass, chilled mixing cup 1/4 filled with ice, 1/2 oz white creme de cacao, 1/2 oz amaretto, 1/2 oz triple sec, 1/2 vodka, 1 oz cream.”
Even one year later it was still considered a new drink as we see here:
Cincinnati Magazine – Oct 1983 – Page 58 Vol. 17, No. 1
“Best new drink The Orgasm at the Press Club, 709 Scott Street, Covington. Bailey’s Irish Cream, kahlua, vodka and amaretto on the rocks.”
PlayBoy’s New Bar Guide by Mario Thomas in 1983 mentions this drink being created in California.
It is important to note that nearly every piece of early literature indicates this drink was infact invented in California, more specifically L.A. It is difficult to determine where exactly this drink was created, however, we are certain of how it was given it’s name
This drink dates between 1975 – 1981 and contained at least as of then:
