Pack the car, we’re going for a ride.

December 27, 2010

“Pack the car, we’re going for a ride,” my mother would say. Oh the memories those words bring back. Whether it was on a hot summers day, perfect to head out to the swimming pool or a cold clear winters night just before Christmas to cruise the neighborhood and check out the decorated houses and yards, those words bring back memories of fun family times from as far back as I can remember.

We’d all pack into my mothers Ford Falcon and off we’d go. Some times we’d just head to the hilly country and go up and down the hills like we were on a roller coaster. Other times we’d go to a friends farm for a day full on activities from milking cows to a picnic lunch, to yard games in the afternoon and a Barbeque dinner to bring an end to a perfect day. It might have been a trip to the zoo or a museum, a local attraction or seasonal event. Regardless of where we went or what we did the memories have stayed with me forever.

I want to take you on some day trips in and around Chicagoland. Let’s travel together, you and I, to see what we can see, go where we can go and do what we can do. Lets put memories in the minds of our families. Memories they can carry with them, and share with their children. Now, you’ll have to turn off the TV, pull the kids away from the game systems, leave the cell phones at home, except one for use in case of an emergency, and plan a day that will be exciting for the whole family.

If you are going on a day trip, include me in as well. I would love to report on your journey to a location you can go to in a day and enjoy all that Chicagoland has to offer. I can publish your photographs, quote your kids and report your view of your Chicagoland Day Trip.

Feel free to e-mail me or leave a comments about where we might go next.
