“Parenthood” might be the best show on TV that you may not be watching. This “traditional” non-traditional family most likely touches on at least some aspect of the family you grew up in or the blended one you belong to now and encompasses a wide range of parenthood styles and struggles. You have a single Mom whose had to move back in with her parents, a happily married couple with an autistic child and a teenaged girl, a successful working lawyer Mom with a stay at home dad, a goof off partying brother who found out he was father to a 6 year old and is struggling to man up and be a good Dad and the Braverman parents are themselves mid 50’s and struggling through counseling and figuring out if they want to stay together now that most of the kids have moved out.
“If This Boat is a Rockin” Adam reaches his breaking point; Sarah faces disappointment; Crosby must make a huge sacrifice before moving in with Jasmine and Jabbar. Parenthood returns Tuesday November 9th, 2010 10/9c and MST.
The last episode of “Parenthood” ‘Seven Names’ Jasmine and Crosby shared the news of their engagement with their son Jabbar, who’s more excited about a wedding cake than their pending union. Over at Zeek and Camille’s, Sarah tells Amber that she’s grounded for lying. Amber told Sarah that she was spending Halloween night at Kelsey’s and instead went to a college fraternity party across the bay. Enter the smug Gordon Flint (William Baldwin) to help rescue a drunken Kelsey from a party and Sarah finds out there may be more to him than she though when he explains the reason he’s so good with the drunken teen is because his X-wife was an alcoholic. Sarah’s daughter Amber thinks she shouldn’t be punished since she did the responsible thing and called Sarah for help when Kelsey got drunk. Sarah threatens to tell Kelsey’s mom about everything that happened if Kelsey doesn’t choose to share it herself. Of course she doesn’t (haven’t you been in that exact same position) and Sarah ends up face to face with her Mom and just can’t keep up the lie. Telling her the truth turns out to have the opposite effect she’d hoped and her daughter Amber ends up getting blamed for the whole thing. At the end Crosby and Jasmine announce their pending engagement to the whole family where it gets a much more enthusiastic reception from Crosby’s family.
The conversations are real and lively and you feel like you are a member of the loud Bravermans after watching a few episodes. The official synopsis: “This is the story of the Bravermans – Sarah, Adam, Crosby and Julia – four grown siblings sharing the headaches, heartaches and unexpected joys of being a parent.”
