Paul Reubens, aka “Pee Wee Herman,” is returning to HBO in a new show for the cable giant in early 2011.
The Los Angeles Times reports that Nancy Geller, HBO’s Sr. VP of Original Programming said, “It’s thrilling to have Paul back on the network, and it will be a blast to return to Pee-wee’s Playhouse.”
Geller also reminded audiences of Pee Wee’s earlier success on their channel by saying, “Before his hit series and movies, HBO introduced Paul Reubens’ Pee-wee Herman to a national audience in the ‘Young Comedians’ series, followed by the groundbreaking 1981 special.”
According to insiders the new version of The Pee-Wee Herman Show will include old favorite characters such as “Cowboy Curtis,” “Mailman Mike,” and “Miss Yvonne.”
Things are really heating up for the successful actor whose career was all but destroyed after a vice arrest in 1991.
The 58-year old actor currently has 2 movies in post production due for release in 2011, including Nailed (starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Jessica Biel, James Marsden, James Brolin) and The Smurfs (starring Neil Patrick Harris, Sofia Vergara. Alan Cumming, and Jonathan Winters as “Papa Smurf”).
Furthermore, writer/actor/director Judd Patow (The 40 Year Old Virgin, Pineapple Express, Get Him To The Greek) has announced that he and Reubens are working to develop a new Pee Wee adventure film, which IMDb also lists for release in 2011.
Did you know? In addition to Pee Wee Herman feature films such as Big Top Pee Wee and Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, Paul Reubens has also appeared in: The Nightmare Before Christmas, Matilda, Doctor Dolittle, Beauty And The Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, Batman Returns, Dunsten Checks In, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Cheech & Chong’s Next Movie, and The Blues Brothers (as the waiter).
