The new Porsche Cayman S is an awesome car! It is a ton of fun to drive! Great handling, performance, and looks. The six-speed shifting is ultra smooth and the clutch feels terrific in sync with the shifter.
The acceleration is quite phenomenal. The car really goes when you step on it thanks to its horizontally opposed six-cylinder, 3.4 L engine. It has a horsepower output of 320 at 7200 rpm and a torque rating of 273 foot pounds. The compression ratio on this Porsche is 12.5:1! O-60 in 4.9 seconds!
The Cayman S now has Direct Fuel Injection (DFI). This type of fuel injection creates a faster fuel delivery to the engine which in turn, creates a faster response of power from the engine. It does this by using millisecond precision, injecting fuel up to 120 bar into the engine’s combustion chamber by electromagnetically actuated injection valves.
The Cayman S definitely has performance, but gas mileage is good on this car with 19 in the city and 26 on the highway. This is a pretty green car also. It has a 8.30 green house gas emissions rating per year. The car uses a two stage cascade-type catalytic converter which includes two monolith substrates on each of the twin exhausts tracts. Not only does this reduce emissions, but it also creates a beautiful melodic exhaust note when accelerating hard.
The idea of how the Porsche Cayman came about is due to a sports car being created in 1953 for the “Le Mans Coupe” race. The car was based on a 550 Spyder. Like the Spyder, the Cayman has a mid-engine layout. Because the engine is placed practically in the middle of the car, it gives the Cayman, like it gave the Spyder, a low center of gravity which makes the handling superb. The car literally feels like it is on rails when going fast around turns.
As for looks, the Cayman S has a very clean, sporty look. There is a new wheel design for the 2010 Cayman’s that really gives the car a nice look. Brembo cross-drilled rotors compliment the new wheels very nicely. The new headlights and new LED taillights really look spectacular. The Bi-Xenon headlights light up the night with no problem.
The interior is ever so nice! Leather seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, shifter, and armrests are ever so inviting and comfortable. All of the controls on the dash are very easy to use and stylish. There is the optional Bose Surround Sound System that is quite fantastic. Music has never sounded so good!
The Cayman S is very affordable in today’s market for a nice sports car. At around $62K, you can take one home with you. Michael Stead Porsche located at 2555 N.
