Products made from hemp, sugarcane, soy, rubberwood, jute, palm leaves, and even animal pooh (that’s right, animal pooh) make great sustainable alternatives in lieu of traditional holiday gifts. While traditional purses, paper, crayons, plates, and toys are made from materials that are scarce and harmful to extract and sometimes even harmful to use, lifestyle items made from rapidly renewable resources (that is, resources that re-grow in two years or less) are the clear earth-friendly choice.
Many renewable-based items are moving beyond the hippie aesthetic and showcasing modern, stylish designs; making them great for gifts or personal splurging.
The Hemptress line of purses are made of hemp; but, don’t mistake them as “free love” satchels. As noted above, the Hemptress Bailey Satchel line (shown above) made Vogue’s “Most Wanted” list as one of the top 10 eco-fashion items of the year.
