Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) has a lot of favors to repay. First in line are Latino voters, who narrowly pushed Nevada’s most powerful politician over the finish line and back to Washington for a fifth term.
That’s what 50% of Nevada voters said they wanted: Reid’s power. As the saying goes, “Be careful what you wish for.”
Reid is quickly trying to appease Hispanic special interest groups by reintroducing the “DREAM Act,” which would give amnesty to children brought into the U.S. illegally. Skillfully avoiding the A-word, Reid says the DREAM Act would provide “a path to citizenship” for illegal immigrant children, by requiring them to go to college or into the military to receive citizenship. To be eligible, children must be in the U.S. for 5 years before the act goes into effect, and they must graduate from high school or have a GED.
All this sounds great to Mario Dela Rosa of the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada. Dela Rosa argues that it’s not the kids’ fault that they came into the U.S. illegally.
True, but it is the very existence of such goodies as free education, free health care, in-state college tuition and now, an easy path to citizenship, that encourages illegal aliens to cross our borders, break our immigration laws and work in our country illegally.
We, the People, pay for these freebies with our hard-earned tax dollars, given to a federal government that appears to be more interested in securing the Latino vote than our southern border. Is this what we want to spend our money on, free services for people who have so little respect for America that their first act “in country” is to break our laws?
Forget election night and Reid’s narrow win, this week Nevadans overwhelmingly told Reid he’s wrong. In a News Talk 780 KOH poll that asked, “Do you support Senator’s Reid’s DREAM Act?” 97% said, “No way, Jose!”
Once again, Harry Reid does not represent the views and opinions of his constituents here in the Silver State, which comes as no surprise to the half of us who picked “Not Reid.” Yes, half the state voted against him: 45% voted for Sharron Angle (R-NV), and 5% voted for 6 other lesser candidates or “None of the Above.”
Unfortunately, Reid won with 50% of the votes, and, as promised, he is continuing to use his power to push amnesty on America.
Sharron Angle never would have proposed or supported the DREAM Act; in fact, she would have used all her power to fight it. Angle is a constitutional conservative who is against amnesty and big government, and she would have stuck to her guns… literally and figuratively.
America was counting on us to retire Reid. Shame on us, Nevada!
