U.S. soccer player Landon Donovan has filed for divorce from his actress wife Bianca Kajlich, who stars in the CBS comedy “Rules of Engagement.”
Donovan filed the divorce petition on Tuesday, just ten days before their fourth wedding anniversary, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. The athlete is also seeking spousal support, and that his attorney fees be paid by his soon-to-be-ex-wife.
“We remain the closest of friends and will always be important parts of each other’s lives,” the pair said in a joint statement.
The couple, who have no children together, separated in October 2009. Donovan, 28, and Kajlich, 33, tied the knot on New Year’s Eve in 2006.

Rumors about a possible reconciliation between the estranged couple surfaced just after the 2010 World Cup, where Donovan became the highest-scoring American player in history. However, days later he faced rumors of fathering a love-child with an unnamed British woman while playing on loan for the English Premiere League’s Everton club. The reports turned out to be untrue.
Landon Donovan currently plays forward for the L.A. Galaxy team alongside soccer superstar David Beckham.
Before landing the role of Jennifer on “Rules of Engagement,” Bianca Kajlich had recurring parts on the TV series “Dawson’s Creek” and “Boston Public.”
