Toyota Motor Manufacturing – Texas to be title sponsor of Street2Feet 5K Run/Walk and Kidz’ 400 meters fundraiser
SAMMinistries proudly announced Wednesday that Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas, Inc. will be the title sponsor for the ministry’s Street2Feet 5K Run/Walk and Kidz’ 400 meters fundraiser set for February 19, 2011.
Navarra Williams, president and CEO of SAMMinistries said, “On behalf of SAMMinistries, I am honored to announce that Toyota Texas is partnering with us as the Title Sponsor for the Street2Feet 5K Run/Walk. This family oriented event will be held in downtown San Antonio on February 19, 2011. The funds raised will continue to support the Street2Feet program as they educate our residents about the importance of exercise and wellness.
“SAMMinistries believes that a holistic approach is critical to the success of our residents on their journey of transformation. So we thank Toyota Texas for providing the support that will help continue Street2Feet’s mission for the mental and physical well-being of those we serve,” he added.
Craig Mullenbach, manager external affairs for Toyota says, “Toyota Texas is deeply committed to being a good corporate citizen, striving to benefit the community where it operates and where its team members and customers live. Partnering with SAMMinistries and the Street2Feet event, and their efforts to improve the quality of life for individuals and families in a moment of need, is in step with our commitment to this community. TMMTX looks forward to the 2011 Street2Feet and continuing our partnership with both partnering agencies.”
Street2Feet was the brainchild of two avid runners and believers in holistic health – Elizabeth Rosenblum and Megan Cullip. The duo approached SAMMinistries in early 2009 to determine if they could launch a health and fitness program for guests at the SAMMinistries Emergency Shelter on Commerce Street. Today the volunteer-based running and training program for the homeless meets three times a week to lead participants now residing at Haven for Hope in stretching, education in nutrition and hydration, walking and running.
In February 2010, the very first Street2Feet 5K Run/Walk and Kidz’ 400 meters fund raising event, an outgrowth of the initial program, drew more than 540 participants and raised approximately $20,000.
Rosenblum explains the rationale she and Cullip had for launching an exercise program for the homeless back in 2009. “This program offers SAMMinistries guests’ exposure to the psychological and physical benefits of fitness in developing discipline and perseverance. We believe we are created spirit, body and soul, and success in one of these areas spreads to others,” she said.
Registration information for the 2011 Street2Feet will be released in the coming weeks. Interested participants should visit www.samm.org for updates.
