San Francisco’s Theater District is alive and well. With so much going on, you might think it’s difficult to choose, but the hands down favorites right now are Luis Bravo’s Forever Tango for a great show and Bar Adagio for delicious pre-theater cocktails and cuisine.
Bar Adagio, in the Adagio Hotel, has great specials just for the theater crowd. Simply show them your tickets and get 20% off the bill. Park next door and receive a $5 discount. Order the Theater District Fore Play and you’ve got a three-course meal served all at once.
Known for their handcrafted cocktails, you won’t miss with the Cucumber Gimlet. The combination of cucumber infused gin and fresh citrus is irresistible. And even though the wine list is small, there’s a good selection, including a Malbec and Nebbiolo in addition to several Pinot Noirs and Cabs.
If you’ve got time, start with the spiced Marcona almonds, marinated olives and potato chips. Don’t forget the mouthwatering prawns with cheese grits, paprika and garlic butter. And mix and match ingredients for your own special pizza. The warm apple cobbler with luscious ice cream melting on top is the perfect ending before the show starts.
Luis Bravo’s Forever Tango is playing at the Marines’ Memorial Theater through January 9th. If you don’t know how to tango now, you will want to learn after the show. You’ll be hypnotized by the music and the dancing. The story line takes you from the beginning of the tango in the bordellos of Buenos Aires to its recognition by high society. The dancing is accompanied by an 11-piece on stage orchestra that includes the bandoneon, the accordion-like instrument that is integral in tango music. The result is one sexy show that has you enthralled with the way the dancers move – from the flick of a leg to the arching of an eyebrow.
So if it’s a fun night out you’re looking for, head to San Francisco’s Theater District and enjoy some of the best.
