City of Sandy Springs earns top communications award
The City of Sandy Springs has earned several distinctive communications honors: the International Association of Business Communications (IABC) Atlanta Chapter Silver Flame Awards and the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals Awards (, Platinum, Gold and Honorable Mention Awards.
The City won two Silver Flames for “Publications, Overall Effort, Annual Report, FY 2009 Annual Report, ‘The Time is Now’” and “Public Relations Campaign, Social Media, “Building Bridges in Social Media.’” The City was also honored by MarCom with a Platinum Award, Social Media Campaign, “Building Bridges in Social Media”; a Gold Award, Annual Report/Government, City of Sandy Springs FY 2009 Annual Report, “The Time is Now”; and an Honorable Mention, Design/Other, Morgan Falls Overlook Park Signage.
“This is quite an honor for the City and for our staff,” said Sandy Springs City Manager John McDonough. “The communications staff continues to be on the cutting edge of technology and in printing areas, and that is reflected in these honors. It also shows that we put a great deal of thought and purpose in communicating with our residents.”
Through IABC, more than 185 entries were judged for competition this year, and 112 received recognition. The awards were presented at the Biltmore Hotel on October 28, 2010.
MarCom Awards are judged by industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry. About 15 percent of the nearly 5,000 entries received in the 2010 competition from throughout the U.S., Canada and several other countries won the Platinum Award, the association’s top honor.
The City of Sandy Springs Communications team is lead by Judy Parker, APR, and includes Tisa Moore, assistant director of media and communications; Jason Green, electronic communications coordinator; Katina Lear, communications coordinator; and Dan Coffer, community service manager.
