Today’s society has become wrapped up in lies, white lies and plain old dishonesty. It is now hard for people to believe in the words of man. As children of God you are to be a person of integrity and honesty. When you speak there should be no question or misinterpretation of what you have said. God’s children are to be a constant and direct reflection of the light at all times. If you have spoken a word then you are to stay true to it, no matter how much it hurts you to do so. “Those that despises a vile man, but honors those that fear the Lord, who keeps his oaths even when it hurts may dwell in the sanctuary and live on the holy hill.” (NIV Psalms 15: 4, 1)
Often times the person that you are most dishonest with and do not keep your word to is the Lord. Throughout your trials and tribulations you get weary, and when you do, you then turn to God with “bargaining chips.” You find yourself saying, God if you do this that and the other then I will do the other that and this. The Lord always answers prayer of those that seek him earnestly without iniquity in their hearts. When God has heard your prayer and manifests it on your behalf then you suddenly get amnesia. All that you have promised Him is forgotten. Sometimes you remember what you said, but you take your time in doing it. “If you make a vow to the Lord your God, don’t be slow to pay it for the Lord your God will certainly demand it of you and you will be guilty of sin.”(NIV Deuteronomy 23:21)
There is nothing worse than being looked upon as a person with no integrity, especially by God himself. Everything that you say and do should be done earnestly. In your time of prayer, whatever you bargain for you are to stay true to. “Whatever your lips utter you must be sure to do, because you made your vow freely to the Lord your God with your own mouth.” (NIV Deuteronomy 23:23) Because you were made in His image and you are a child of His, then you are to be a true representation of Him at all times. You are to be so trustworthy and the words you speak are to be so honest that the individual does not have to question what it means or interpret what is said. “Simply let your yes be yes and your no, no; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.” (NIV Matthew 5:37) You are to say what you mean and mean what you say. Being classified as a liar in the eyes of God and humanity is not a good thing.
Good intentions are not enough when it comes to the words you speak. If you are a person that exaggerates, speaks around his words, tells half truths and rationalize it by calling them little white lies, you are in grave danger of having no integrity and misrepresenting God. “When a man makes a vow to the Lord or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything that he said.” (NIV Numbers 30:2) When you are true to your word you do everything that you said you would do; no matter how painful it may be. When the Lord makes a promise He doesn’t stay true to some of it; He is true to all of it. You must stay true to your word, because ultimately they are a reflection of you and you are a reflection of God. The Lord does not lie in any way and at any time. “I am a man of my word,” should be able to have complete truth to it when it comes to God’s children. Remember when bargaining, committing, or making any other forms of agreements you are to keep up your end of the bargain stick.
