Reversing the depressed economy and creating job growth will require individuals to “take the wheel” and drive with intention toward their personal and professional desires. A new Berrett-Koehler Publishers business book due out in February directly addresses for individuals how to chart a course toward “I wants” and how the organizations that survive and thrive are the ones that instill a positive-outcomes mindset in the workplace.
“Seeing Red Cars is a metaphor for focusing on what you want,” explains Author Laura Goodrich, a Twin Cities resident, workplace innovator and an international expert in workplace dynamics and change. “It’s a concept everyone can relate to, based on the idea that if you buy a red car you start seeing red cars everywhere you look. Why? Because you’re focusing on them. Taking the analogy further, if you choose the positive outcomes you want, and you’re constantly thinking about them, you will attract those outcomes into your life by way of that intentional focus.”
The book shares the title of a successful companion film, Seeing Red Cars, already in use worldwide by more than 600 trainers, coaches and consultants. The book is titled Seeing Red Cars: Driving Yourself, Your Team and Your Organization to a Positive Future.
Drawing on scientific research, Goodrich explains why we fixate on negative thoughts and how we can actually rewire our brains to focus on positive outcomes. Seeing Red Cars helps individuals concentrate on the “I wants” that best fit their passions and interests, and then find support, manage weaknesses, set priorities, and develop action plans to achieve them. The book offers a free online toolkit to guide readers in making the conscious decision to focus on what they want and commit to an action plan to make it happen.
Goodrich explains that Seeing Red Cars the book is perfectly timed for what is happening right now. “The marketplace is undergoing dramatic change, technology is advancing rapidly, we are climbing out of a recession, and people are even more uncertain about the future. This is the environment in which fear and worry escalates as this unconscious negative focus gets in the way of productivity, motivation, innovation and solutions. This book helps people regain control, take the wheel, and drive with high beams on toward their personal and professional ‘I wants.'”
The book transforms more than individuals. “It can also build corporate cultures in which employees are playing to their passions and strengths, focusing on what they want, and achieving breakthrough individual, team, and organizational outcomes,” says Goodrich. “As the mindset spreads and hits critical mass, it becomes part of an organization’s core engine, driving growth, innovation, and bottom-line results.”
