The Seiskaya Ballet production of the holiday classic “The Nutcracker” returns to Stony Brook’s Staller Center for the Arts this week, giving six performances over December 17-20. The ballet is choreographed by world-renowned Russian-born choreographer Valia Seiskaya.
The performances will be held:
- Fri. Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.
- Sat. Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
- Sun. Dec. 19 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
- Mon. Dec. 20 at 7 p.m.
Tickets for adults are $40, children/seniors pay $34. For more information on specific performances call 1-866-NUT-TICS.
The Seiskaya Ballet’s principal dancers Alexis Lucena and Anna Craddock along with featured soloists Danielle Kistulinec, Alexandra Palma, Isabelle Stark, Alexandra Tsivitis and Marisa Whiteman will bring Tchaikovsky’s characters to life.
The Staller Center lobby will showcase two huge 14’ tall animated mechanical figures, sure to delight both the young and young at heart. The first is modeled on the famed Nutcracker and has a movable jaw. The second figure, Blinky, is a soldier whose eyes open and close. And, as is often the case with Staller Center productions, autograph sessions with the principles are available in the lobby after some of the performances.
Staller Center is one of the finest venues on Long Island, with a 1000-seat professional performance stage that rivals any comparable-sized theater. I’ve been fortunate to have seen a number of ballets and musical performances at Staller, as well as the Stony Brook Film Festival.
Visit the Staller Center website to read about their other upcoming performances. There’s still time to purchase tickets for Staller Center’s 2010-2011 events and concerts: visit the Staller Center online Box Office or call (631) 632-ARTS .
