This drink was the first of the era of naming drinks after terms generally associated with sex. Here is an early printing of this drink:
Black Enterprise – Dec 1987 – Page 110 Vol. 18, No. 5 – 116 pages – Magazine – Full view
“Bartender Magazine’s 1986 drink of the year, the Silk Panty, is guaranteed to cause a stir. Simply combine 1 oz. ice-cold Stolichnaya vodka and 1 oz. ice-cold peach schnapps and serve shooter-style.”
After contacting Bartender Magazine to verify this article, it turns out this drink was Bartender Magazine’s 1986 drink of the year. Ray Foley – Owner and Best Selling Author tells me this drink was created by Sandra Guitierrez a Chicago bartender, and was created for a Peach Schnapps contest held by National Distillers in Chicago in 1986.
It turns out the “Silk Panty” is a misquote and this drink has always been called a “Silk Panties”. It is unclear why Sandra named this drink a Silk Panties, perhaps because this drink is smooth as silk. It is clear that this drink was not invented at “Choices – Bar and Grill” seeing as the only location was in Memphis, Tennessee in 1986.
This drink dates to1986 and contained at least as of then:
Stir these ingredients:
