An epic start to winter has hit Europe. After premature claims of the hottest year on record, this December will turn out to be the coldest on record for Great Britain. Records began 100 years ago. The latest storm brough a foot of snow that shut down the world’s busiest airport, London’s Heathrow. This storm also hit France hard. The first seasonal snow on November 25 combined with nationwide strikes due to raising of the reitrment age by two years, has led to the perfect storm of travel dismay. The latest storm was too much, for even Lady Gaga’s tour. Her concert originally scheudled for October was delayed due ot the strikes, was missed again, and sent the diva to vent on Twitter:

It should be noted that after a hot summer, European Meteorologists publicized their ominous winter forecast back in October. The discussion of a slowing Gulf Stream had hints of a building ice age. We have had our fair share of extreme cold air and heavy snow in the past few weeks. This may appear to be an abrupt change from the record heat of the summer, but may just be averaging towards the middle. In the spring, extreme heat and cold can be found in one region within days or a week of each other. Sometimes the larger scale weather patterns behave the same weather. This is not a debate for any influence of human pollution, just the way our atmosphere sometimes plays out. This can be found scattered throughout record books since the 1800s.
Note that last winter had it’s fair share of extreme weather outside of Baltimore’s tremendous snow falls.
