Tonight was Spike TV’s Video Game Awards, where many of the greatest games of the year are awarded for their success, and some of the future winners like Batman: Arkham City and Uncharted 3 make their debut.
Before we get into the winners let’s talk about some of the many games that made their premieres during the show this year. A Batman: Arkham City trailer with no game footage was shown early on in the show and gives gamers a glimpse of a new villain that gamers will face off against. Bethesda had a big reveal as they showed a brief glimpse at the next Elder Scrolls title, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim which was given the release date of November 11th, 2011. A short trailer for Mortal Kombat was also shown as showed God of War’s Kratos step up to the plate.
A new trailer for Thor: God of Thunder also made its appearance and showed plenty of gameplay; players can expect to see the game May 3rd, 2010. BioWare finally made their next new game official and after the recent leak many already knew it was Mass Effect 3, but the trailer really gives gamers an idea of what they face as it showed an attack on Earth and a soldier mentioning that they are waiting for Shepard to arrive with help and later in the trailer Shepard himself made an appearance.
The Resistance 3 trailer mixed live action with game footage as it showed the character battling enemies while going downriver in a boat and then getting all Thor on his enemies with a sledgehammer was shown and fans can expect to see the game September 6th, 2011. Fans of Prototype will be pleased to see a Prototype 2, set for 2012, the game trailer revealed a new character that is on the hunt to destroy Alex. Guillermo del Toro finally showed a quick reveal of his new game in collaboration with THQ and Volition, titled Insane, sadly though we won’t see it until 2013 and the trailer didn’t show very much.
A Forza 4 trailer was also shown and fans can expect to see it in fall 2011. SSX: Deadly Accent was also shown in a new trailer and it doesn’t resemble the older games with their more cartoon-like look so it will be interesting to see how it goes when more information is released. The big reveal of the night was of course Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception and the new trailer which included some gameplay footage didn’t disappoint in the least. Fans will be dying to play it all the way until its release, which was set as November 1st, 2011.
