The WWE, with its headquarters, in Stamford is one of the biggest forms of entertainment in the world today. One of the things that really entices people to the WWE is the blurred line of fiction and reality. How much of the product is based on truth and what is believable or not goes a long way in drawing fans to the ring and all the surrounding storylines.
It is human nature to want to know as much info as possible and the less that is known, the more somebody wants to figure it all out. Wrestling does this to perfection. Wrestlers take on roles that they have to portray in a certain light in front of fans. To be successful they have to either make the fans love them or hate them. In other words, they need to get a reaction.
This is where reality is often obstructed by performance. Is John Cena really a good guy? On the other side, is Kane really worthy of being hated? The answers to those questions would probably be a yes by the majority of people. However, that is only based on their characters in the WWE. Who are these people really? It truly is difficult to differentiate between their roles and their true character. Much more is known about the character than the actual man.
Even if you’ve met these people it is still tough to forget the traits that they typically portray in front of millions of fans. WWE is a great example but it is true in every sport that you don’t actually know the athletes you cheer on every time they take the playing field. Some fans think they know because of the image the media puts out but if you’ve never met or dealt with a given athlete you would never truly be able to comment on an athlete’s personality.
Many times the perception surrounding an athlete or celebrity is wrong. Sometimes it depends on the day. You’ll meet a great guy who is just having a bad day or you’ll be lucky in your encounter with a known malcontent. Most of the time though, it is just that you can’t take somebody elses opinion of another. Think about your own life. Don’t a lot of people get a bad reputation just because of the simple fact that others are jealous or not content with themselves?
A new feature on this site will be looking at different sports celebrities and what they are actually like. With a lot of experience communicating and dealing with these people, the writer will convey his thoughts on each based on their personality and characteristics. What you will find is that a majority of these performers are, in reality, much better people than their public image conveys.
