Each year, historic Main Street in St. Charles, Missouri, features a Christmas celebration like no other. Whether you’re a history buff, enjoy classic literature, or just want to experience a magical holiday, the Christmas Traditions event is one that, once experienced, you’ll looked forward to every year.
Beginning the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 26th, historic Main Street will transform into an old-fashioned Christmas wonderland. As you step out into the crisp, Winter air, the joyous sounds of Christmas carolers will greet you. Enjoy the music as you eat at one of the many restaurants or cafes, or get some holiday shopping done amidst the many interesting and unique shops.
The historic shops will be decorated with wreaths, greenery, white lights and red bows, setting a scene that is straight out of a classic novel. And speaking of classic novels, as you stroll through the Christmas Traditions wonderland, be sure to keep your eye out for costumed characters from all your favorite holiday stories and legends.
You may see Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit, Santas from around the world and from different eras, a Christmas angel, the Nutcracker Prince, Jack Frost, Mrs. Claus, a Reindeer flight instructor – even a sugarplum fairy! Each character has cards that tell a little about themselves and the fun game of the day is to try to collect one from every character. Just be sure to watch out for Ebenezer Scrooge. Though you may get a card from him, don’t let his “Bah, Humbug!” attitude spoil your day.
Of course, if you start to feel a little of Scrooge’s winter chill in your spirit, you can just skip on over to the MKT Katy Depot in Frontier Park and admire the amazing train display. There is nothing like a Christmas train, winding it’s way through an imaginary world and the look of wonder in your children’s eyes, to take you back to the days of your own childhood.
Or perhaps you’d like Santa to bring you your very own train set this year. He’ll be on hand to record your Christmas wishes and take photos, so be sure to see him while you’re there.
If all this wasn’t enough Christmas tradition for you, you can also go ice skating, take a carriage ride, or really watch chestnuts roasting on an open fire.
