Two of Fayette County’s five football teams are headed for a try at the State Championship next weekend after wins last night.
Starr’s Mill won by a one point lead against Tucker High School last night in Clarkston and that will put them in the next round toward the State Championship. Sandy Creek also of Fayette County won a victory over Peach County; and they will also get to play where the big boys play.
What a thrill for these Fayette County boys to play in a 214 million dollar athletic facility in Atlanta, Georgia. Both teams play for the Georgia High School Association.
Going into the game, all four teams were undefeated with identical records of 13 – 0. Starr’s Mill game was a tit for tat game; and could have gone either way at anytime. Starr’s Mill was leading early on and then Tucker came back and took the lead and then Starr’s Mill came back.
Both teams played extremely hard and it is always heartbreaking to see any team play so hard knowing that one would have to go home the loser. This time the sadness came to Tucker High who was favored to win last night.
Starr’s Mill will meet the Chattahoochee Cougars next Friday night who is 14 -0 and is ranked number ten in the state in their class. Starr’s Mill’s overall is also 14 – 0 and is ranked number six in the state.

By changing the name of the high school on the above site, you can pull up all teams in Georgia to see where they are; and how they have done so far.
Michael Boylan of the Citizen Newspaper in Fayette County gives a much better hit by hit; touchdown by touchdown in his sports column.
He also gives the run down on the other Fayette County High School, Sandy Creek, who went the distance and then some last night with another victory. Sandy Creek met the Peach County players and came up with a 35- 17 win.
Sandy Creek will play against Carrollton next week in the Superdome. They are 14 – 0 and number 15 in the state.
Friday night will be Starr’s Mill’s first championship game; and will play against Chattahoochee at 8 p.m., while Sandy Creek, last year’s AAAA state champs, will play Carrollton for the AAA title Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Chattahoochee is 14 – 0 and number ten in the state in their class.

Parents, fans, and Fayette Countians are all so proud of these two teams as well as Whitewater who came within one game of the playoffs off. They pulled an upset against Northside the week before and then fell to Ware County 13 – 21. That was a long hard trip from Fayette County to play in Ware County; and a much longer trip back home after they came so close.
Appreciation is to be extended to these three schools, the faculty, staff, the coaches, the students and the fans. What would football be without them all?
Go Sandy Creek Patriots…….And……Go Starr’s Mill Panthers
