Crooks hate to hear the word ‘no,’ but that’s what started the downfall of a man who tried to carjack a woman in a Rochester Hills parking lot. In a story broken by WDIV-4 and picked up by MSNBC, a man who wanted to boost a ride ended up in jail with two live witnesses and security footage stacked up against him.
A 70 year old woman returned to her handicapped spot outside the Hollywood Market in the upscale Detroit bedroom community when a stranger got into the passenger side of her vehicle. First, he demanded her purse. The woman said: “No.”
When the man said he would settle for her car keys, the woman left the car. The frustrated man then began berating a store employee who had seen the incident. That didn’t work out too well, either.
The employee got his dander up and chased the would-be carjacker across the street, where he holed up in a Papa John’s. Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies arrived while the man was still there.
The perp was arrested, nobody got hurt, and Hollywood Market security cameras have the attempted carjacking on tape.
