48th Street Pub and Grill……total dive bar. But you have to check it out! The drinks are beyond amazing and the people are a blast. To be honest, their happy hour is nothing spectacular but their daily food and drink specials mandate a stop at this dive. See for yourself Monday through Friday, 3-6pm and Power Hour, Sunday through Thursday, 9-10pm.
Unfortunately, 48th Street doesn’t have any Happy Hour food offerings. But the daily specials are worth checking out: Monday starts off with Wendy’s Wild Wings (the regulars couldn’t stop raving about these!); $5.95 cheeseburger and fries on Tuesdays; Wednesday is Steak Night (just $8.95 for steak and all the fixins); Thursdays you’ll get $1 tacos; Fridays offer up $6.95 Fish N Chips; Chicken and Joes on Saturdays and $5 one topping pizzas on Sunday (perfect snackage for football watching.). This is classic bar food, and from the sampling that we had, everything was right in line with what I’d expect from a perfect dive bar. As in, delicious, deep fried, home-style food.
The only regular happy hour offering is $1 off all drinks. Now, this may not seem like much but when you factor in that the drinks are already cheap, and incredibly strong, it’s a hell of a deal. Well drinks are going to be just $2.75. But it gets better. In addition to happy hour, 48th Street also has the Power Hour Sunday through Thursday from 9-10pm. During Power Hour, you get any drink you desire for half price.
Service was incredible! Shout out to both Wendy (day) and Rabbit (night)! These two ran their asses off! The volume of people varied throughout the day, and with only one server working both the bar and the floor, at times, there was a pause in service. Where sometimes this would irritate me, it didn’t bother me at 48th, mainly because it helped to insure that I didn’t suck the drinks down too fast!
This place is a dive, in every sense of the word and that is what makes it beyond fabulous! Filled with regulars, this place is a blast! First timers will feel welcome and comfortable and will want to come back time and time again. Sure, the barstools need to be recovered, and the bathroom stall doors don’t line up, but that only adds to the charm of this classic dive.
Happy Hour Rating
Rarely will I give a perfect rating, but 48th Street Pub and Grill earned the rare five martini rating. They have everything I require for the perfect happy hour: strong drinks, great prices, amazing service and delicious food. Add in the atmosphere, and you can guarantee I’ll be back.
Here’s an insider tip: This is a great place to watch football, if you are a Hawks fan or are a member of the Raider Nation. Both are welcome and both groups offer some really fun people watching opportunities.
