If you are wondering about your child’s skill level in Math, or are considering enrolling him/her in a math enrichment program, then you may take advantage of the Free Math Assessment Day offered by Meritor Academy in Middleton, Massachusetts, in association with the Pi Math School, on November 13th. The free math assessment is offered to children from grades K through 8, and is open to students from all communities.
Meritor Academy, a coeducational elementary school in Middleton, Massachusetts, was founded to serve accelerated and creative students in the Greater Boston area. “To better serve the emerging needs in education in the 21st century, Meritor Academy is one of the few elementary schools in the region, starting this year, to have a specialist teacher for each area of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) curriculum, including Russian Math specialist Iliya Koptsiovsky of Pi Math School”, says Head of Meritor Academy, Susan Morrissey. “Our new math program taught daily at the school combines the best of Singapore Math with Russian Math strategies, and there has been such an interest in this program, that families from outside our school community have inquired about it and have been asking for ideas to aid in their children’s mathematic development. To answer this need, Meritor Academy, in conjunction with Pi Math School, decided to offer the free math assessment day for children from grades K-8”, she adds.
The free assessment will be offered from 9 am till noon on Saturday, November 13th. Parents can arrive with children until 11.30 am, as testing will take 30 to 40 minutes. Professional math instructors from Pi Math School will administer the tests, during which Mr. Koptsiovsky and Ms. Morrissey will be available to answer questions that parents may have. Following the test, each parent will meet with an instructor to review the child’s score and areas of strengths and weaknesses. Instructors will also offer suggestions to parents to help improve the child’s math skills.
Reservations are required by November 11th for this event, in order to determine seating and availability of teachers to do the assessments. According to Ms. Morrissey, interest seems to be coming from a wide radius, with students from communities including Grafton, North Attleboro, Andover and Braintree registering for this event.
