Resident Evil 2 for PS1
The Resident Evil series popularized the survival horror genre. Though critics may not agree which Resident Evil Game is best, they are all wrong unless they pick Resident Evil 2.
RE2 took the format of the first game and perfected it. 3D characters on 2D backgrounds (which cleverly looked 3D) and puzzle gameplay involving figuring out how to unlock various doors. Plus zombies. That was the simple formula for RE’s success.
One of the things I always loved about the earlier RE games was the fact that you had a limited amount of ammo. Whenever you were confronted with a roomful of zombies, you had to decide whether to blow them away or try to sneak past. Conserving ammo was always something you had to plan around.
And back in these days, the plot of the RE series had to do with the evil Umbrella Corp. There was none of this bogus European cult business that made RE4 so silly. (I know, many people will tell you RE4 is the best in the series. They are all wrong.)
Currently, there is a very good selection of zombie games on the market, but back in the 1990s, Resident Evil was our best option.
Saint Cloud area retailers that might have Resident Evil 2 on hand are Gorilla Games and Game Central.
