‘Blue Jacket’ with Cole Fonseca will take the Monterey stage at 2:25 to 2:50 pm.
Blue Jacket,bluejacketband, with it’s big time talent, is the first of the local bands to take the stage. Richie Blue on guitar and vocals has been playing professionally for 40 years. His soulful voice and virtuoso guitar is enough to make them a tough act to follow. Bill Bilou on Hammond B3, keyboards and vocals with over 40 years experience. Tom Oliveira on bass also has 40 years as a musician. Drummer Vernon Vera has 40 years of playing experience. This group of musicians has played with major recording artists like, Steve Perry, Steve Miller, Taj Mahal, BB King and Charlie Musselwhite to name just a few.
Joining “Blue Jacket’ will be Cole Fonseca,colefonseca, a slide guitarist, harmonica player and singer. He is an inspirational story of blues passion and the heart’s perseverance in succeeding in life after a tragic accident may have changed his life’s path but not his dream. Cole Fonscea has opened for BB King and Kenny Wayne Shepard.
Baby Bee and Good Fellas will take center stage at Monterey from 3:50 to 4:05 pm.
Beverly Greene will be taken the stage by storm with her soul and funk style of blues. Baby Bee has been a blues performer since early 1970. Baby Bee has been putting on blues parties in Fresno with great revues. Baby Bee as she is known to the blues community will be performing two original songs. The songs are from her new CD ‘Back it up and spank it’, stinginsweet. Baby Bee has been making audiences get up and dance for many years as drummer and now out front as the singer.
The supporting cast for Baby Bee will be John Johnson on lead guitar. He has a legato style of blues rock guitar. His guitar playing is very melodic. On bass will be Danny Camarena. Danny has played with Ron Thompson, rtblues, on the famous ‘Blues Cruise’, bluescruise, and with Joe Houston, joehouston, in Holland and Paris. Danny played the San Jose Blues Festival with legendary “Carter Brothers’, /carter_brothers. On drums will be Aaron Tucker. Aaron is the former drummer for Albert King, king. Aaron Tucker got to hang out with ‘Rolling Stones’, rollingstones , when King invited him to his room where the Rolling Stones came to visit the legend of the blues.
Joe Walton and Star Choice will be on stage playing some down home blues at 5:00 to 5:15 pm.
Joe Walton, a professional musician from the age of 14, joewaltonandthestarrchoiceband, will be playing some of Fresno’s most soulful rhythm and blues in the Monterey Battle of the Bands, montereyblues. Joe Walton and Star Choice can also play some great funk. Joe Walton has three CDs, ‘Choppin’ Cottin’, Feed my Monkey’ and ‘Walk the Back Streets’. Joe Walton will be joined by Catharine Walton on vocals. Walton will be backed by the Star Choice Band one of Fresno’s finest blues bands. Joe Walton and Star Choice are a solid blues force you will not want to miss in Monterey.
Deja Blues will take it to the Monterey crowd at 5:25 to 5:40.
Deja Blues, dejablues, one of Fresno’s best and hardest working bands will be the last of the local bands to play. Deja Blues has a new CD out called ‘Nothin’ but the Groove’ cdbabydejablues. Don Heflin, bass player for ‘Deja Blues’, is the president of the central valley blue society, cvblues. Don Heflin is not only a great bass player but a fine vocalist. Don Clarey a very popular figure in the central valley blues world is the drummer Deja Blues. You can catch Don Heflin and Don Clarey playing almost every Thursday at the stress relief party featuring legendary blues musician Ron Thompson at the Babylon Club. On keyboards is Rich Graham, Jim Furnas on guitar and on Harmonica Jeff Hallock.
