For those who like to shop last minute for the gadget lovers in their lives, the Fresno Apple Store has all but guaranteed that the Apple iPad will be in stock through the holidays. While it may be a bit on the pricey side, it can also be a worthwhile investment.
The iPad with Wi-Fi debuted on April third of this year, so Apple has had plenty of time to produce quantity enough for this holiday season; and while the iPad with 3G wasn’t released until the end of April, that doesn’t mean that Fresno’s own Apple Store has any less in stock right now or through the end of the year.
The local Apple Genii are ready to activate your iPad with 3G just in time for Christmas directly from the store with two plans from the AT&T wireless carrier. The lowest priced plan at $14.99 per month—which assumes that one would not use very much wireless internet—allots 250 Megabytes, while the higher plan—and more suited to deliciously geeky needs—gives the user 2 Gigabytes at $25.00 per month. Don’t let the monthly plans discourage you though; the same price plans apply to AT&T’s smartphones in addition to a calling plan. If a monthly rate is not your style, every version of the iPad has built-in Wi-Fi which can connect to some of the newest and older networks; and as most Fresno natives and caffeine addicts know: you can find a Wi-Fi signal at any Starbucks.
The iPad comes, at its cheapest, in the 16GB model with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. While the true storage capacity is closer to 14GB, the tablet computer is not meant to be a storage powerhouse (that’s what portable hard drives are for). The 16GB model comes standard with iTunes, iBook, and the Safari browser included amongst a whole slew of other applications. Apples App Store currently hosts over one-hundred thousand apps and almost all of them are compatible with the iPad, including the DC Comics e-reader which fits beautifully into the vertical rotation of the iPad’s screen; Skype and Google Talk can even be used in conjunction which the on-board microphone and speaker, as well as the standard headphone jack.
If you are still not convinced, head over to the Apple Store inside Fashion Fair Mall in Fresno, just off of highway 41 and Shaw Ave. They have iPad aplenty on display, and you can believe me when I tell you that ten minutes of hands-on time can sway anybody toward this great new gadget.
