America is the “less” imperfect way of organizing society…….as of today, for this privilege may not be ours anymore rather sooner than later!
Today, money issues replace morality and social consciousness. Worse, the truth has lost its value and is often hidden behind a hypnotic curtain made out of media fog and political mumble-jumble.
Politicians and media alike argue non-stop about ways to get the country back on track, although the results are scarce and far apart. Money should be invested here or there, stay in or leave Afghanistan, give banks a break or let them sink, and so on and on. It is a never-ending story of irresponsible social conduct.
I guess, lawmakers are confident America is such a powerhouse there is no need to tweak it. As to us down here, media pundits do a diligently job in making us believe. Moreover, we agree. Period.
Sad picture we are trapped in! Unconsciously, we are adding concrete to the foundation of the next crisis and the next and the next. One of them will definitely be the last one…for the worse.
We may need a reality check ASAP?!
For sure, politicians are irreconcilably divorced from economics. The current political discourse shines with horrifying data about unemployment, extenuating financial woes, cuts in benefits for everybody but politicians themselves, what we owe to China, undesirable illegal immigrants stealing our jobs, and on they go.
Notwithstanding, come election time, politicians faithfully adhere to the powerhouse concept and forget all the woes. Millions pop up out of nowhere! Even a good chunk of change goes to tea-ing our founding fathers!
“Fixing” America does not necessarily mean we must play the million’s game. Yet, politicians do so rather irresponsibly. They hope money, lots of it, will eventually create the illusion of recovery.
Banks, for one, got pampered, financially, that is. In return, they were expected to perform some “charity” work and somehow rescue small businesses and home owners in shambles. Wrong! Instead, they cleaned their books, tightened the screws, and paid back to Uncle Sam. Not one word about those businesses and homeowners was ever said!
Furthermore, Wall Street has been profiting all along. It is part of the magical illusion, I guess. Records have been set and someway stocks have rebounded.
All that said, one has to wonder why it takes so long to deal, pass, and enforce legislation of such moral and social significance as DADT and the Dream Act.
Reluctantly, politicians “conceded” gays and lesbians the right to be openly gay and patriotic. Like one contradicts the other! Yet, it took some filthy dealing on tax cuts for the rich, namely some of our politicians!
9/11 first responders are still waiting, though. Politicians claim they need to find a way to fund the program. Weren’t the tax cuts supposed to turn into jobs and consequently more money? For whom?
The Dream Act does not fare any better. Politicians try to stay away from the human rights aspect of the whole issue. They rather focus on legal terminology that does not really apply to those who, by nature, belong here already.
As to START, lawmakers do not seem to be any more focused at all. Only that the aftermaths of their negligent behavior may be the end of the world the way we know it!
We may want to start by demanding more control over our elected officials!
