Things are never dull on the set of Top Chef. Episode three, “New York’s Finest” invited the chef’testants to dine at an elite New York restaurant, then prepare a dish that chef would be proud to put on the menu. Set in groups of four, the chefs ate then cooked at Ma Peche, Townhouse, Marera and wd~50. As individual cooks most made dishes that fit the style of the restaurant, but in a stunning twist, two who didn’t meet the criteria were sent home. Asked to pack their knives for week three were Stephen Asprinio and Dale Levitski.
Episode four “Advantage Chef” begins with the shocked chefs discussing the surprise double elimintaiton. But shocked as they were, the game must go on.
The Elimination Challenge has the chef’testants cooking at the home of the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament. The challenge was to create a healthy dish to be served head-to-head.
The winning team is safe, the team with losing points faces elimination. Each team has to decide whether to send the chef with the best dish or the one with the worst dish to compete for points. Although cooking in two teams, each chef was responsible for their own dish. Tre Wilcox, although having the least favorite dish, had immunity so the chef asked to leave was Spike Mendelsohn.
This years Top Chef winner will have a feature in Food & Wine magazine, a showcase at the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen plus $200,000 to help further their culinary career. Watch Top Chef every Wednesday 10 p.m./9c on Bravo.
