‘True Grit’ reviews – what do the critics think? — The new adaptation of the Charles Portis novel, True Grit, opens in theaters across the country Wednesday. The film’s stars, Matt Damon and Jeff Bridges, have been out promoting the movie heavily. What do the critics think of this new adaptation?
While stars Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon are receiving notice for their performances, these veteran actors share their enthusiasm with the critics for the acting skills of Hailee Steinfeld, who plays teenager Mattie Ross in the film.
As far as the movie stands overall, RottenTomatoes.com ranks it at 96% fresh from 99 reviews surveyed. The site ranks the film a 96% fresh as well from 27 reviews written by those it calls “Top Critics.”
Metacritic.com has similar positive rankings for the movie at 82 out of 100 points from 23 counted reviews.
