As I mark the anniversay of my first year writing about the wondrous world of Second Life, I take stock of the year, and what I have to be thankful for. My loyal readers, all the fantastic places we have written about, and even the contraversial stories that have made us one of the the highest read gaming columns nationally.
So in this season of giving, I offer, for your enjoyment, my version of a Christmas classic.
I wish everyone a safe, joyous holiday. I hope find the peace you seek, and the love you deserve.
‘Twas the night before Christmas,
And all through the Grid,
Not a server was reset,
Wouldn’t help if it did;
The DMCA’s were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that a limited License soon would be there.
The Residents were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of OpenSim danced in their heads;
And Cyndi in her best silk,
And I in my hat,
Had just settled down for a long evening chat.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my seat to see what was the matter.
Away to the sound I flew with a wag,
But found myself stuck by the maddening lag.
The sway of the palms was a wonder to see;
It made me thank heaven I got them for free.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a 90 prim sleigh, and 8 10 prim reindeer.
With a Noob-looking driver who couldn’t stand still,
I knew in a minute it must be Saint Phil.
More rapid than banning, his coursers they came,
And he IM’d and right-clicked and called them by name;
“Now, Laggy! now Ghosty! now Anim and Tier Fee!
On Meshy! on Windlight! on Rezzer and Freebie!
To the top of the sim! To the top of the Mall!
Now crash away! Crash away! Crash away all!”
So up to the top of the rezzed house they flew;
With the sleigh full of prims, and St. Linden too.
And then, with the knowledge that there as I am,
I was being spied on by a remote cam.
As I turned on my house alarm, I heard such a sound,
St. Linden tp’d into my room with a bound.
His hair was all spiked out, his shirt red and black;
And he looked like a vendor just opening his shack.
His eyes – how they twinkled! His avatar merry!
His Removal team was here in a hurry!
He was curious and nimble, a right jolly old elf;
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself.
With a wiggle of his finger, and a twist of his head;
He gave me a feeling of uncanny dread.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work;
The speed of his keystrokes made me feel the jerk.
He rezzed all the goodies I wanted this year;
Then told me I had a new higher rate tier.
I IM’d my friends list to tell them the news;
And hoped that a spybot was not on the loose.
He turned and he waved, and then with a click,
He tp’d back out of the house really slick.
He sprang to his sleigh, and then with a shout;
He told his Removal Team what to take out.
But I heard him exclaim as he rezzed out of sight;
“SL Christmas to All! And to all a good night!”
Merry Christmas, Second Lifers.
