Earlier this month at Smolak Farms in Andover, Massachusetts, the USO’s Trees for Our Troops event helped some special families to ring in the holiday season.
Through an alliance between Smolak Farms and the USO of New England, BAE Systems donated 100 holiday trees to USO-military families. Families who have either had a loved one that just returned from deployment or one who will deploy shortly after the holiday season were able to participate in a full day of fun, holiday activities.
Made available to some military families who might have been more limited in their personal holiday festivities due to financial constraints, participants were able to munch on holiday treats, go on hayrides, visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, decorate cookies, make crafts, and cut down their own trees or select from pre-cut trees on the farm. In addition to the trees each family was given a goody-bag full of holiday decorations.

If you’d like to become involved with the USO right here in Illinois there’s always a need for volunteers at the four USO Centers in the Chicagoland area. Some of the duties at these centers include greeting guests, checking ID’s for access, serving food, assisting guests in logging on to a computer or signing up for email, and more.
