Happy New Year!
Welcome to the Anaheim Budget Wine Examiner page – where you can find info about some great wines you can try locally!
You don’t have to be a sommelier to give people the lowdown on great wines – after all, it really boils down to what you like, or what you don’t!
Your feedback is always appreciated – it helps makes this section even better for you!
So since the New Year has passed, we’ve all tried something new, right?
This New Year, we decided to try something a little pricier than the usual fare – not “budget”, per se, but still a deal since it was purchased at Total Wine instead of at a restaurant.
The wine in question was the Chateau Montelena 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon. At 50 bucks, it really was a good price for a really wonderful wine.
In case you didn’t know, Chateau Montelena is rather famous. It’s the vineyard that put Napa Valley on the map in the latter part of the last century, and was also the focus of the fictionalized retelling in “Bottle Shock”. If you haven’t seen it (and you’re a wine lover), you should check it out. It’s a fun movie, and it makes you want to go have some wine.
Digression aside, the Cab was very tasty. Nice and smooth, full bodied, not the normal fare Marcus has (he usually opts for something a little more oakey), but still an excellent choice! Worth buying at a wine store rather than a restaurant, since a corkage fee alone could have shot that bottle price up to about 80 dollars!
Is there any wines you would like to know about? Wine places to try? Types of wines, etc.? Leave comments/feedback – we’ll see how much ground we can cover!
