The Washington Wizards held a special “Maryland (University) Night” Friday to celebrate former Maryland Terrapin Greivis Vasquez in his professional debut at the Verizon Center. Washington’s road game in Detroit will feature another former Terrapin in Chris Wilcox, but tonight’s schedule is all about the Georgetown Hoyas. Enjoy an evening of Pistons DuJuan Summers and rookie Greg Monroe, as well as former NBA superstar (not so much as a Piston) Allen Iverson, live from Turkey in his second game since signing with the Turkish team Besiktas Cola Turka of the Beko Turkish Basketball League.
3:30 p.m. ET – Allen Iverson, live from Turkey in his second professional game (NBATV)
6:00 p.m. ET – First regular season meeting between the Wizards and Pistons (CSN)
The Wizards lost to the Pistons this preseason, and it wasn’t a pretty one, defensively. Rodney Stuckey, who leads Detroit this season with 16.1 points per game, scored a cool 34 points on Washington, and he did it on 13-for-18 shooting. The good news is Gilbert Arenas was a DNP during that game, due to a groin strain (the real injury after the fake injury that turned out to be a case of nerves). The bad news is John Wall might sit for the fourth game in a row, still nursing that sore ankle.
Wall played regular minutes during Washington’s preseason meeting with Detroit, but he was pulled for the last seven, since preseason was winding down. Seven minutes without Gil or John, and the Wizards lost by six points? Okay, let’s call that “good news” as well. Keep an eye on JaVale McGee tonight as he goes up against former Wizard Ben Wallace, a guy that’s still hell on the glass after all these years. McGee is averaging 8.6 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game over the last three games.
WAS – John Wall (Questionable; Ankle); Yi Jianlian (Questionable; Knee); Josh Howard (Out; Knee).
DET – Jonas Jerebko (Out; Achilles); Terrico White (Out; Foot).
